Compensation for black land owners from major oil companies

Fair compensation for Antony Griffin and his sister Dorothy (Griffin) Joachain for oil being pumped out of the ground belonging to the Griffin family since 1935.

Why is this important?

When laws continue to exist that allow justice to be denied, poverty to be enforced, and ignorance to prevail; where any one class is privileged to feel that their society gives them a fundamental right to oppress, rob and degrade... then no matter how long those laws have been in practice, or for whose benefit they were enacted, those laws must be challenged, and ultimately changed.

Major oil companies raise technical legal issues to justify the illegal withholding of oil royalty payments to minority local land owners. Oil companies create the illusion that they are the improper parties to an oil royalty suit in Federal Court in the western District of Louisiana.
Specifically Exxon Mobil and Hess Oil (including their ancestors and successors) contend that they are not responsible for Oil Royalty payments to the heirs of Morel Griffin based on their Oil and Mineral extraction pursuant to a 1935 lease agreement with the Griffin Estate.

The Griffin Complaint by Anthony Griffin and his sister Dorothy Joachain contend that members of the Griffin Family were paid as little as $300.00 in spite of the thousands of barrels of Oil and or other minerals extracted from the Griffin Estate. Their father one of the owners of the Griffin land was paid nothing. While the oil companies do not deny the extractions or the existence of the oil lease, they simply state the Griffin's have waited too long to ask for payment.

Notwithstanding public documents and oil company mergers are clear that these companies and other related predecessor and successor companies have been the benefactors of oil and mineral extractions with little or no payment to the Griffin Estate (Morel Griffin in particular), and without any payment to adjacent land owners.

To add further insult, oil is still being extracted from the Griffin land and the successor oil companies continue to become unjustly enriched not only at the expense of the Griffin's, but also at the expense of other adjacent land owners.

The Griffin's have stated that, "they simply want justice and If one cannot get justice from the Federal Courts then where can one go??? The oil companies have not dealt with us honestly or fairly. They have taken advantage of our lack of sophistication, lack of education, and poor economic condition. Above all, they are now attempting to use the courts and the legal process to deny what is rightfully ours".

The family in question has recently filed a formal complaint, petitioned the courts and has done everything possible to comply with the law on their behalf. But because of their extreme wealth the oil companies have been able to influence local politics and the courts to act on their behalf, and for this reason the Griffin's have been brushed aside with trivial responses and legal jar-gain, much of which they don't understand. The Griffin's are asking the oil companies to offer them a favorable settlement. They need someone to champion their cause like organizations such as Black Lives Matter, the National Action Network and others which have proven time and again that we do have champions who are not afraid to confront those things that are morally and justifiably wrong! Although not acting as their legal counsel, but as a trusted friend and family consultant I have a strong concern for their plight as well as the plights of others who suffer this type of injustice. As this campaign continues to gain momentum, I would like to express our gratitude to our supporters and to those who have thrown their hats in the ring by embracing this most crucial matter and encourage you to reach out to the various media outlets whose responsibility it is to enlighten the public to these types of atrocities.
