To: We, the students of Los Angeles Southwest College, call on VP Tangelia Alfred (Student Services) to increase on-campus mental health counseling availability to four days a week.

Increase Mental Health Counseling Hours at Los Angeles Southwest College

Dear VP Alfred,

My name is Geneisha Sturgeon, and I am a student at Los Angeles Southwest College. I’m writing to express my concern about the limited mental health counseling hours available to students.

Many students at LASC experience stress, anxiety, or depression while balancing school, work, and family responsibilities. However, it is difficult for some students to schedule counseling appointments because services are only available on limited days. This creates barriers to the mental health support we need to succeed academically and personally.

I am asking that LASC increase the number of on-campus counseling days from two to four per week and explore adding evening counseling hours for students who work during the day.
Thank you for your leadership and for considering this important issue. I believe that by investing in student wellness, we can truly “Create the Best Southwest.”

Sincerely,
 Geneisha Sturgeon

Why is this important?

Why it’s important:
Student mental health directly affects academic success and retention. Many students at LASC struggle with stress, anxiety, and depression, but limited counseling hours make it difficult to get help when needed.

Why others should join:
When more students support this cause, we can show LASC leadership that mental health resources are a shared priority. Together, we can help create a campus where every student feels supported and has access to the help they need to succeed.
