Remove Lubbock District Attorney Sunshine Stanek and Reopen the Erskin Jenkins Case

Help us get justice in the name of #ErskinJenkins
We are demanding that Lubbock County remove Sunshine Stanek from her position as District Attorney and reopen the case surrounding Erskin Jenkin’s death at the hands of the Lubbock County Sheriffs Department.

Erskin Jenkins was a sophomore Psychology major at Texas Tech University. At only 20 years old, he was shot and killed by the Lubbock County Sheriffs Department on November 23, 2024, while attending a Friendsgiving celebration off campus.

Erskin was a loving, kind and soft-spoken young man. He volunteered his free time to help the unhoused and aspired to be a veterinarian one day.

His family submitted an open records request to the county and were denied the requested information. In addition, the Lubbock Sheriffs department still has not released the unedited footage from the officers’ body cams that night.

As such, we still do not understand what happened that night. New information has since come to light, warranting a full investigation into what occurred the night of his death.

Lubbock County and District Attorney Sunshine Stanek have shown a lack of transparency in regards to Erskin’s case. We demand that she be removed from her position and that the case be reopened by her replacement.

Why is this important?

There has been a complete lack of transparency in this case and the Lubbock County Sheriff's Department needs to be held accountable for their actions. The county is supposed to protect and serve its community and it is failing to do so.
