STOP PATIENT DUMPING IN LOS ANGELES

TAKE ACTION NOW and tell Pacifica Hospital to STOP PATIENT DUMPING in Los Angeles!

Los Angeles, like many other cities and counties have created an unmanageable environment for people with severe mental illness. My brother, Monte Cullors has been a consistent victim of Los Angeles County’s poor mental health care system. I have been an advocate for people with severe mental illness for the last 25 years.

August 20th, 2021 my brother was released from Pacifica Hospital’s mental health unit, by Dr. Clifford Iriele. In his discharge paperwork the doctor wrote down that my brother was ‘unpredictable’ and ‘disorganized’ and yet Dr. Iriele still discharged my brother.

As a family member of a loved one with severe mental illness I am beyond disturbed that any health care professional would release a patient while they were still in a crisis.

Unfortunately this happens daily across the United States.

Right now I need you to sign this petition so we can:

Call on Jeff Acosta to investigate, and hold Dr. Clifford Iriele accountable, and any other doctors who have actively patient dumped people with severe mental illness.

Our family needs your help. We have to tend to the communities who are most in need.

Why is this important?

1 in 3 people in the United States suffer from severe mental illness. Our country is woefully underprepared to take care of the most vulnerable. I need your help.

What is patient dumping?

Patient dumping is when a hospital literally kicks a patient out of the hospital before the patient is physically, or mentally, ready to be discharged. Patient dumping is illegal, dangerous, and incredibly hurtful to families and communities.

What do we do to build a world that cares for all?

We have a crisis in the United States. Millions of people are impacted by severe mental illness and yet we have absolutely no infrastructure to care for them.

More than 40% of the prison and jail population suffers from severe mental illness.

In LA County, about 91,000 folks are houseless, making it the largest houseless population in the country. Many of the folks who are houseless experience severe mental illness.

Black folks make up 34% of Los Angeles County's houseless population – a highly disproportionate number as compared to the percentage of the population of Black folks in LA County overall (about 8%).

We need to hold Pacifica Hospital accountable for turning their backs on the most vulnerable. PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE.
