Campaign To Free Marlo Helmstetter
Please sign this petition to advocate for the immediate release of Marlo Helmstetter. Your signatures will convince the judge to take an un-bias look at Mr.Helmstetter's case and release him or have his case removed from Judge Africks court due to his bias and the information provided below. Judge Africk is a senior United States District Judge, for the U.S District Court of the Eastern District of Louisiana. Judge Africk has repeatedly shown a bias to Mr.Helmstetter refusing to acknowledge that he was indeed a child at the time of the alleged crime that he was convicted of, and because of this, it is impossible for him to not only pass fair judgement but to also see to his immediate release. Marlo has been incarcerated longer than he has been home.
Why is this important?
Marlo Helmstetter has been incarcerated since the age of 14 years old, due to his circumstances as a black boy growing up in the Calliope Projects in New Orleans, Louisiana. Because he was an impressionable & impoverished child it led to him being led astray & then incarcerated. Because he was a child, we are asking Judge Africk to grant compassionate release to the now 53 year old Marlo, who has now been behind the wall for 35 years this march.
