MOBB United for Terence Crutcher - Tulsa, OK

Moms of Black Boys United (MOBB United) is a national social justice group of nearly 150,000 concerned mothers of Black boys and men. Our members come from various races and demographics, from coast to coast in the United States and beyond. Our organization was born following the death of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge and Philando Castile in Minnesota. We demand an end to the unjustified killing of Black boys and men in America.

We are shocked and outraged by the decision of the Tulsa Police Department to place Officer Betty Shelby on PAID administrative leave following her extrajudicial killing of Terence Crutcher. Officer Shelby does not need to be placed on paid leave; she needs to be arrested.

By placing Officer Shelby on paid administrative leave instead of an immediate dismissal, the Tulsa Police Department displays a lack of compassion for the Crutcher family, a lack of concern for Black sons everywhere, and a complete disregard for the ongoing national trauma of our collective community.

Officer Betty Shelby's callous disregard for life, flagrant oath of office violations, and failure to render immediate medical attention to Terence Crutcher, necessitates that we demand that she be criminally charged; and immediately placed on UNPAID administrative leave, pending the outcome of an investigation from an independent body.

Why is this important?

Terence Crutcher was killed while unarmed and left to die next to his vehicle by the Tulsa Police Department. This heinous act shows a clear disregard for human life by several officers under the Tulsa Police Department’s command. As the world watches, we have become painfully familiar with the facts: Mr. Crutcher was unarmed. Mr. Crutcher showed no signs of resisting arrest. Mr. Crutcher was summarily executed on the streets of America.

We, Moms of Black Boys United, and the citizens in the Tulsa community demand accountability for what clearly seems to be a criminal act.
